Gate Installation with DJ Fence & Gate

The opening matters as much as the fence.

A gate is often the part of a fence you interact with most. Its location, width, swing, and hardware should reflect everyday use rather than simply filling the gap left at the end of a fence run.

We install gates with new fencing and discuss new openings in existing fences. Bring us the access you need: a garden walk gate, a wider opening for equipment, a driveway entrance, or a commercial vehicle gate. We’ll review the supporting structure and the space around the opening.

If automation is part of your plan, bring it up at the beginning. The gate, operator, access controls, and supporting work need to be considered together. A manual gate should not be assumed ready for automation without an assessment.

The details that matter

What we can help with.

01

Walk gates

Plan the opening around the path people already use, with hardware and a layout suited to that location.

02

Driveway entrances

Discuss the vehicle opening, available swing or slide space, approach, and whether manual or automated operation is preferred.

03

Equipment access

Allow for the mowers, trailers, and other equipment that need to reach the property, rather than guessing from a standard opening.

04

Commercial gates

Consider site circulation, pedestrian access, delivery needs, and coordination with the fence and access-control scope.

Compare the details

Start with the look you like, then compare privacy, access, care and the needs of your property.

A closer look

A gate is more than the panel.

Choose the motion before the finish

A swing gate needs room for the entire leaf to travel. A sliding gate needs a suitable path beside the opening; tracked and cantilever arrangements have different support and clearance needs. Measure the usable opening and the space around it, not just the gap between two posts.

For a driveway, show the approach, nearby parking and the vehicles that regularly use it. For a walk gate, include the path, steps, bins and mower access. The most attractive gate is not the right choice if it makes routine access difficult.

Build the opening as a complete assembly

The leaf, frame, posts, hinges, latches and adjoining fence affect one another. A gate that drags may have a support problem rather than a latch problem. For replacement work, we assess what can stay before specifying a new leaf.

Wood, vinyl and open metal gates place different demands on the assembly. Wide and paired openings need their own details. Include finish, hardware, hold-open arrangements and the direction of travel in the agreed scope.

Plan automation and access together

Automation adds an operator, controls, power arrangements and safety considerations. Tell us who needs access: residents, staff, visitors, deliveries or service teams. Keypads, remotes, readers and intercoms serve different needs and must be compatible with the selected system.

Discuss power availability, backup operation, manual release and work by other trades before installation. An existing manual gate is not automatically ready for an operator. Never bypass a safety device or keep cycling a gate that appears unsafe.

Know what is included after installation

At handover, review normal operation, how to secure the opening and the care information supplied for the equipment. Keep the operator and control documentation where the property manager or owner can find it. Access credentials should not be sent through a public estimate form.

New gates have a two-year complimentary adjustment provision under the written warranty. That is not an unlimited warranty on materials or operators. Residential, repair and commercial workmanship classifications have different terms; confirm which applies to the agreed project.

A clear way forward

From your first question to a defined scope.

  1. Describe the traffic

Who uses the opening, how often, and what needs to pass through it?

  2. Review the surroundings

Consider grade, obstructions, parking, adjoining structures, and the room needed for the gate to operate.

  3. Choose the operating approach

Discuss manual use, automation, and access controls before the final gate design is selected.

  4. Understand care & coverage

New gates include two years of complimentary adjustments. Applicable original-workmanship coverage continues under the written warranty.

We stand behind our work

Lifetime workmanship warranty.

Qualifying complete new residential installations are covered for as long as the original customer owns the property. Non-transferable. Material defects, natural wood changes, and other exclusions apply. Repairs and commercial work have separate terms.

Before we get started

A few good questions.

Can you add a gate to my existing fence?

We can assess the existing fence and supports for a new opening. The project may require additional posts or changes to the adjoining sections.

Do you install both swing and sliding gates?

Yes. We can discuss both approaches based on the opening, available space, use, and system requirements.

Can my new gate be automated later?

Tell us if that is your goal. We can discuss planning for a future operator, but compatibility and safety requirements still need to be assessed for the final system.

Are gate adjustments covered?

New gates installed by DJ Fence & Gate include two years of complimentary adjustments. Routine adjustments after that period may be chargeable. See the written warranty for the complete terms.

What changes the cost of a gate project?

The opening size, material, frame, supports, operating method, site preparation, removal, operator, controls and related trade work can all affect the scope. A meaningful estimate separates those items.

Should vehicles and pedestrians use the same automatic entrance?

Discuss a separate pedestrian route during planning. A vehicle gate's movement and controls should not be treated as a general walking entrance.

What happens if power is lost?

That depends on the selected equipment and backup or manual-release provisions. Ask for the intended outage procedure to be explained and included with the system information.

Can you work on gates installed by another company?

We welcome repair and replacement inquiries. Send photos, the symptoms and safely accessible equipment identification so compatibility and the condition of retained parts can be assessed.
