Start with the cause, not just the damaged piece

A leaning post, a dragging gate, and a broken panel may look like separate problems, but the right repair depends on what caused them. Photos help begin that conversation; a site review may be needed to understand the condition.

A focused repair can make sense when the affected area is limited and the surrounding system remains suitable. Wider deterioration, repeated failures, or a layout that no longer works may lead to a replacement discussion. This is an assessment, not a diagnosis from a single photo.

When a repair is worth discussing

  • One damaged section with surrounding sections still in usable condition
  • A post, rail, panel, picket, or hardware issue that can be addressed locally
  • A gate that needs adjustment or a defined hardware repair
  • An existing system where compatible replacement components can be obtained

A repair should leave you with a usable result, not simply cover up a larger problem. The condition of existing posts, footings, and nearby components matters.

When to compare replacement

  • Damage or deterioration spread through much of the fence
  • Multiple components at the end of their usable condition
  • A style or product that cannot be matched closely enough for the desired result
  • Changed needs such as greater privacy, different access, or a new property layout

We can discuss the scope of a repair alongside the work involved in replacement. There is no fixed percentage or universal price rule that decides the answer for every property.

Take useful photos safely

Send one wide view of the fence run, another showing nearby sections, and clear close-ups of the concern. For a gate, show the opening, hinge side, latch side, and any visible operator identification.

Do not climb an unstable fence, stand beneath a leaning gate, or remove protective covers to take a photo. Keep people and animals away from a damaged area until it has been assessed. For powered gates, do not bypass safety equipment or attempt an unsafe test.

Know which warranty applies

Unless otherwise stated in writing, fence repairs, gate repairs, modifications, and work involving existing materials carry one year of coverage for DJ Fence & Gate’s workmanship. Existing materials and components are not covered.

Qualifying complete new residential installations have separate limited lifetime workmanship terms. A repair does not convert an existing fence into a new installation with lifetime coverage.

Review the Written Terms

Tell us what changed

Was there an impact or storm? Did the gate begin dragging gradually? Has the ground or surrounding landscaping changed? Tell us what you noticed and when.

Send the location, a few photos, and what you want the fence or gate to do. We will use those details to discuss the next step.
